Eliminate spam on your iPhone for good

Finally managed to solve my iPhone email spam problem. I’m using Google’s powerful spam filters to catch the hundreds of spam emails I receive daily. How did I do it? I’ll show you in the step by step guide below. Here it comes:

1. Things you need – Google mail account that no one knows (create a brand new one for best results), your website hosting account details ( you need to be able to login in your hosting account control panel as an administrator, because you will be required to forward oncoming emails), your current POP 3 account credentials.

2. Login into your hosting account and forward all mail coming to your email address (yourname@yourdomain.com) to your Gmail account.

3. On Gmail go to Settings and click on Accounts. Edit the “Send Mail as:” information with the information you want to appear in the From field in all outgoing messages. Click on Add Another Email Address and put your own email address (yourname@yourdomain.com). Click on Next Step and Google will require verification that you really own rhis new email address. Click on “Send Verification” and then check your email. Click on the verification link in the email from Google.

4. On your iPhone fo to Settings/Mail, Contacts, Calendars/ Add mail account. Do not tap on the Gmail ready made account but tap on Other.

5. Put you preferred account name ( this is the name that will appear in the From field on the recepients email client), your email address e.g. yourname@yourdomain.com and an optional description. I just left it blank.

6. On the next screen of details choose IMAP as the type of account, put incoming mail server imap.gmail.com and your gmail account username (without @gmail.com) and gmail password.

7. Your smtp mail server is your hosting provider’s mail server and in most cases when you have a shared or dedicated hosting account it is mail.yourdomain.com. You can get those details from your Outlook email account settings or ask your hosting/ISP for their smtp server a username and password for it. In my case I used mail.mydomain.com as my smtp server. In the username and password fields I put my current POP3 email account username and password (not your Gmail username and password).
password detalis.

8. Tap on Save. Wait for a minute or two (be patient and wait – you are doing the right thing). You will see a message asking you whether you want to continue without iPhone using SSL. Tap Yes. You will see a second similar message – tap Yes again (or Continue – can’t remember which one exactly it was).

Voilà! Job done. Now you have Google’s most advanced technology to kill the spam for you. All emails sent to yourname@yourdomain.com will be downloaded to your iPhone spam free. When you tap on the account name in iPhone email you will see your iPhone Inbox and Sent Items folders as well as all folders from your Gmail account. Bear in mind that all mail that you send will be stored only on your iPhone.

Apple iPhone Apps

Finally I received the new iPhone 3GS today and had a play with it. Not a bad phone, decent features (now with 3.2 megapixel camera and video recording capability) and good speed. I felt it was too fragile in my hand compared to my Blackberry Boldbut I take I haven’t got used to it plus I did not have a case or protective cover.

However the thing I am most excited about my iPhone (actaully I ordered it for my wife while keeping my Blackberry :) If I like it I will get one myself.) are the Apple apps. There are thousands of them and the majority are free. The ones you have to pay for cost between £0.50 and £5.00 which is quite reasonable.

I downloaded a fitness and excercise application called Six Pack App. Wow! What a great little piece of software. So handy and everything I was looking for with regards to exercises and bodybuilding. It shows you with pictures how to do each exercise, which muscle groups are involved, info, tips, dos and don’ts, training routines from absolute beginners to pros. Everything you need to know about fitness training and what to do if you want as nice six pack abs for instance. It’s just great.

And it was the first one I checked out at the Apple Apps store. I am becoming an Apple fan and I will definitely be getting an iPhone for me as well. Actually I will order one tonorrow :-) .

Rispek!

A Sneak Peek at the Billy Gibbons 1959 “Pearly Gates” Les Paul from Gibson Custom!

I never thought why Gibson have not made a Billy Gibbons signature Les Paul or an exact replica of his famous Burst yet. Seems quite logical to do so but the Rev has been ignored but not until now.

Gibson Custom have announced they have been working on a “Pearly Gates” replica and a release date is around the corner.

I am very excited because Billy Gibbons is one of my all time favourite guitar players – great technique, great tone and great guitars. I read his book containing images of his most famous axes and was left speechless. Wow! The guy has an unbelievable collection of vintage guitars, modern guitars and a few things that are called guitars but look like anything else but guitars :-) .

I will be phoning Gibson dealers to inquire about pre-ordering one of these sweet instruments.

Perfect – Funny Video

As I was clearing my computer overcrowded desktop from unused icons I found an Excel file called “Perfect”. Hmm…

I opened the file and there was a flash video embedded in it. Funny and clever. But I was puzzled by the fact that you could insert a flash video in an Excel file. I didn’t know it could be done. Can I insert one in a Word document? Possibly.

Here’s the file I’m talking about “Perfect” (the movie is funny) and let me what do you think about it. Did you know you could insert video in Excel?

Nick Vassilev’s get back ini shape – day 9

In the light of my previous 5 posts I would like to say the following: I messed up my eating regime :-) . Not the end of the world but I wasted 3 days. Not completely wasted – just wasted. Damn Krispy Kremes ruin everything I start with my healthy eating. ..

I know must not buy take away doughnuts or go anywhere near them fore at least a month. After that I think it won’t be that bad. Just keep the sallads and the grilled chicken rollin’ for a month and then – easy.

Another good idea is to start exercising in order to speed my metabolism (and somehow make up for those wasted 3-4 days on the dough-nut :-) ) No one would believe me but it is even harder to go to the gym if it’s in your house. I’m not saying that buying a proper gym membership is going to make you go to the gym – no. It’s a matter of free time. In my case I can “buy” more time by going to bed early but … I never do. I always find what to do in front of the computer. Put in the equasion my latest TwitterFever and I’m going to bed 3am -4am completely blasted. This is bad, I know, but very difficult to overcome.

Fingers crossed I will get there. Possibly with the help of a comment or two :-) .

Weight: probably arround 105kg at the moment.

Food: not too bad apart from 6 Krispy Kreme doughnuts and a bit of Coke

Exercise: Zilch!

It’s not easy…

Nick Vassilev’s Get Back In Shape – day 5

Well, how to say this…one lost day due to me and my family attending a kiddies’ birthday party. I drank many beers (at about 250 cals each), russian salad with potatoes, mayo and a bunch of other things. Not to mention the late night Krispy Kreme doughnut extermination.

As I’ve said before – it was my “mind relaxation day” – when you have to eat whatever you want to eat. That keeps you sane and normal although I overrelaxed my mind with doughnuts :-) [lol and reaches for a nice little cup of espresso...where's me doughnut...ah, it's Monday. Sorry. Forgot. Where were we?]

In other words it was a No Get Back In Shape day but Stuff My Mouth And Take It Easy one.

Here’s one of the culprits:
